The challenge

Synthesia needed to fill hot melt adhesive at around 130 °C into drums and IBCs, with no operator handling a product that hot, and with labelled drums leaving straight towards the outside of the building.

The solution

Workshop test

An SP3: a Cartesian machine whose tools move left–right and up–down, while a position-controlled conveyor moves the drums and IBCs back and forth under them. Machine vision locates each container. The tool head can carry up to four tools; here it carries the filling tool and a clean-in-place system, with room kept free to add decapping, capping and sealing later without changing the machine.

The line is U-shaped. Inside the U, a rotating table turns each drum almost a full circle in front of a labeller, and the containers then leave towards the outside.

The result

Hot adhesive filled by net weight to ±0.1% with no operator contact, and a line that can grow into full decapping, capping and sealing when the customer needs it.
