The challenge
Quaker Houghton needed to fill lubricating oils into four container sizes at high output, and to cap, label and code them on the same line.
The solution
EL2-E-V Automatic Filling & Capping for Lubricating Oil – Verkol / Quaker Houghton, Spain
Before the machine, every jerrycan is labelled on both sides and ink-coded. Inside the EL2-E, in its vertical version, the containers are separated from the accumulation row into groups of four, and a transfer carriage places each group on four independent scales. Four dosing units then fill the four containers at the same time, each one on its own. Filling is proportional: each valve opens fully and closes progressively as the weight approaches the target, until it is shut. This is faster than the usual coarse-then-fine filling. When the carriage brings the next four empty containers, the same movement takes the four full ones to the outfeed, where an automatic capper screws on each cap.
The result
Four containers filled at once to ±0.1%, capped, labelled and coded, in one line supplied in 2011.
