The challenge
A resin producer near Barcelona needed to fill a hot, highly flammable resin into drums automatically, with no risk of ignition from oxygen or static electricity.
The solution
EL2-B Automatic Drum Filling Machine — 200 L, Explosion Proof, N₂ Inerting | Chemical | AiCROV
An EL2-B in an explosion proof version. An accumulation conveyor feeds the drums one by one. At the first station, side wheels turn each drum until the bung is always in the same position. At the second, a lance fills the drum with nitrogen, and pressure and flow are monitored to confirm the inert atmosphere. At the third, the drum is weighed and grounded: spikes on the scale pierce the drum base to discharge static electricity, and the machine will not fill until grounding is confirmed; if contact is lost, the nozzle closes until it returns. An immersion nozzle then fills from the bottom up. A fourth station is left free for automatic capping in the future.
The result
A flammable resin filled in an inert, grounded drum every time, with safety checks the machine will not skip.
