The challenge
Nutrien’s crop-protection plant in Australia needed to fill IBCs and 120-litre drums with Micro Matic valves on several products at once, with forklifts loading from any side and the filled containers leaving wrapped.
The solution
Line in production
Five parallel chain-conveyor lanes joined at the top by turntables: four filling lanes, each with its own LSC, and a fifth for discharge. Forklifts drop IBCs or pallets of drums on any filling lane. Three lanes pass through an automatic stretch wrapper; the fourth does not. Every LSC has a filling assembly for Micro Matic valves, so drums are filled through the valve without opening them.
The result
Four products filled in parallel — around 12 IBCs or 40 drums an hour on each lane — with every container leaving on a single lane, wrapped or unwrapped as needed.
How each lane works
On each filling lane, the IBC — or the pallet of drums — reaches the LSC’s filling position on the chain conveyor. The operator selects the recipe and presses start; the machine tares and fills to the net weight under the bunghole. Drums with Micro Matic valves are filled through the valve with a specific filling assembly, without opening them. When filling ends, the container moves on towards the turntables and the outfeed lane.
Part of a bigger plant
This line is one half of the packaging plant AiCROV supplied to Nutrien in Melbourne. The other half is four EL2-E-V (the vertical version of the EL2-E) jerrycan lines with a single robot palletizer serving all four. One supplier, one project manager and one control philosophy for the whole factory.
